Bar Council Of Delhi
Also known as BCD Is the state bar council that governs and regulates legal practise in Delhi. The Bar Council of Delhi chairman is Shri Rakesh Tiku.
So, how did the bar council of Delhi was formed? The Advocates Act, 1961 (provisions of Chapters I, II, and VII) came into effect on August 16, 1961, and the first elected body of the Delhi Bar Council was formed in January 1961. At that time only 3000 advocates were enrolled as advocates.
The Bar council of Delhi comprises 1 Chairman, 1 Vice-chairman, Secretary, 1 committee chairman for each committee, and Admin staff. The committees under the BCD include Executive committee, Disciplinary committee, enrolment committee, rules committee, election committee, library committee, Welfare committee, ad hoc committee, education and examination committee, Indigent and Disabled Advocates Committee and Advocate Welfare Fund Committee.
Delhi Bar Council has a rule book which has all the details and guidelines relating to the rules, relevant regulatory references etc for the Bar Council. These rules are approved by the Bar Council of India under the provisions of Advocates Act, 1961.

Functions Of Bar Council Of Delhi
The Bar Council of Delhi has a wide range of powers, responsibility and functions. Some of them are as follows:
1) To admit the persons as advocate in their roll
2) To prepare and maintain the record of the advocates

3) To hear and decide cases of misconduct by advocates on its list;
4) To protect the rights, privileges, and interests of the attorneys on its roster;
5) It publishes legal periodicals and legal papers;
6) Provides poor people with legal aid in the prescribed manner;
7) To make provision for election of bar council of Delhi members
8) To manage and invest the Bar Council’s funds;
9) To keep a regular check on the universities as directed under Section 7(1) Clause I.
10) To do all other functions as under the Advocates Act,1961
11) To encourage the growth of Bar Associations

Enrollment Process In Bar Council Of Delhi
To enroll yourself as an advocate you need to have a degree in law from a University in India or even outside the territory of India only in case when the degree is recognized by the Bar Council of India. Obtain the application form from BCD and complete the form, attach all the relevant documents as needed. Once completed, submit the form in BCD. Scrutiny of Enrolment forms will be done by the enrolment committee. One an approval is given from the Council successful applicants will be issued an enrolment number and an Identity card. These advocates can now practice in Delhi.
Timings Of Delhi Bar Council
Bar Council of Delhi working days are from Monday to Friday (except holidays as announced by the Delhi High Court)
Bar Council of Delhi office timings are from 10:15 am to 4 pm. During this time online payments are accepted, verification of enrolment application and other public dealings are done.
Lunch break is from 1:15 pm to 2 pm.

Apart from head office and branch office, BCD also has 2 extension counters one at Karkardooma court at 1st Floor, D-Block, Lawyers Chambers and the other in Dwarka Court at 1st Floor, Lawyers Chamber Block (Dwarka Court Bar Association).
