WHO IS THE OWNER OF DELHI CAPITALS?
The Delhi Capitals has been jointly owned by GMR Group and JSW Group since 2008 when the team was named Delhi Daredevils only to be changed in the year 2019.
The GMR Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate based in New Delhi. Surprisingly, the Delhi Capitals, formerly known as Delhi Daredevils, was founded by the GMR Group, leading to their entry into the sports sector. It was after a decade that the company decided to sell off 50% stakes of the team to the JSW Group after the approval of BCCI and IPL Governing Council.
Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao (GMR) after whom the GMR Group is named, was the first generation entrepreneur who started with Agriculture based industries dealing in jute, breweries, and sugar, and later moved to the infrastructure phase.
Currently, the major focus of the GMR Group lies in the developments and management of infrastructure of Airports, Highways, Energy, etc. It is very inspiring to have a private sector company in the country that is responsible for the development and management of extremely busy and beautiful airports in our country, that of Delhi International Airport, Hyderabad International Airport, and others in Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Nagpur.

- A steel plant was set up in 1982.
- An acquired steel plant – Piramal Steel Limited which was later named JISCO in 1982.
- Another steel plant, known as Vijayanagar Steel Works was set up in 1994.
- The company acquires Salem Steel Works in 2004
And finally, in 2005, JISCO and JVSL merged to form JSW Steel Ltd.
